I have yet to hear a Mustang in person that sounds better than mine, and thats saying something. You want a deep and extremely aggresive exhaust? Get the Flows with a high flow or offroad h pipe - Youll make those magnaflow guys sound like ricers...

Someone here in town was pulled over because his car's exhaust was too loud and received a citation. Needless to say, the driver is going to court over it to fight it.

My question is how do you determine when your exhaust is too loud for street use? I listened to quite a few sound clips and was just wondering.

Ive always been wondering that myself. I know for sure that there is a certain decible range, but i cant really tell what it is so i just decided to be safe and have cats on my car. Problem is its really hard to win a case like that against a cop, so make sure you keep it on the down low when they pass by.

Keep it low? Then what's the purpose of spending $400-$500 on a new exhaust system. Sorry for being a smarta$$. Just couldn't help myself. LOL!!!

You would think the muffler shops would know what is street legal and what isn't. After all, you are depending on their expertise.

To be on the safe side, I think I'll ask some cops that I know to see what they say about the decibel levels. They can't all be jerks!!!

Lol im not saying keep it low all the time. Just dont be a total dumbass like some of my friends and floor it WOT when you see a cop nearby. Thats just asking for trouble. Most muffler shops should help you out, so i think that would be a good idea. Best of luck to ya.

leadfoot...why should a shop be responsable for loud exhaust.....thier not your mommie.....some will reccomend but after 100 kids don't listen they give up ya know.....why would anyone want to advertise trouble with a loud exhaust? 90% of the time if it sounds mean it isn't much to race...I don't use loud exhausts as I don't want the wrong attention if you know what I mean!

Ive always used the loudest exhausts I could find. I love em and no trouble from police for me. I guess its because im in southern kentucky, but no cop around here cares about how loud a car is.

I had Flows on my 97 Cobra and the drone was so bad you could not have a conversation or listen to the radio driving down the road. My '03 Cobra has the Magnaflow catack and it sounds GREAT and is quiet at cruising speed. I would never go back to flowmasters.... Find some guys in your area with different exhausts and have a listen before you buy anything.

MAC Flowpath mufflers combined with an off-road H-pipe sounds incredible. Really deep muscle car sound. Sounds much like a beefy 351 on a 4.6 Mustang. Unfortunately they are some of the worst flowing mufflers around. It's a tradeoff. Usually you sacrifice sound quality for performance, and vice versa.
