how to: killswitches?
What would be the best set up to use for a kill switch in a 1989 hatch? I'm not wanting to kill all power to the car because I plan on having an alarm system. should I kill power to the ignition or to the fuel pump? Open for any and all suggestions.
Thanks in advance.

should I use an under the dash toggle switch or some kind if neutral position switch with the shifter? What have you guys done? are there any kits available?

For example, if you don't have fog lights, you will just have a blank where that switch would have been.
Buy the switch but use it as the kill switch.
Putting the switch in plain view screws up the thieves.
You just have to make sure you don't accidently hit it while driving
FWIW whatever you do, don't mount it anywhere near the left front kick panel where the bulkhead connector, fuse block etc is located.
It's the first place the crooks look.
Also make sure you bury the wires within an existing harness so they are not visible.
Good luck!

I used the cigarette lighter in the center console,
It wasn't to hard to do, a couple feet of wire and a relay, I tapped the relay in between the wire leading to the solenoid, then disconnected the hot wire leading to the cigarette lighter and attached the negative of the relay to the lighter,
So now even if they are able to hot wire the ignition the car wont crank unless the lighter is pushed in, which this lighter is in the glove box of the center console. I have had a few buddy,s ask me how to do the same on thier cars....
Edit: the car still uses the original ignition switch to start the car.

DesertMach, can the cigarette lighter really handle the load of the ignition? My dad had some sort of cigarette lighter kill switch in his mustang when I was little, but sometimes the car still wouldn't start even though the lighter was in. I don't know if he had a relay or not
