RE: first startup
The main thing is to dissable the ignition
and crank the motor to generate OIL PRESSURE.
The worst thing is to get it to start with the
bearings sitting DRY. One way to insure a
short engine life.

You should have primed the oil system and applied prelube to all the bearing surfaces already.
Make sure the engine is timed and the fuel system is also primed. You should fire pretty much immediately or you will run the risk of wiping your bearings. My new engines start as easy asa fully tuned engine, which is what you want to accomplish. You 100rpm starter may supply some oil, but not nearly as much as the engine turning 2k rpm.
And, yes, you need to break in the flat tappet cam for 30 minutes or so while changing the engine speed between 1500 and 3000 rpm. Then, change the oil and filter.
Drive for about 500 miles of normal driving (no redlines, excessive idling, or constant engine speed) and change the oil. Then change at 1000 miles. Then change at 1500 miles to synthetic. This does depend on how the engine is built (clearances), but is a decent baseline.

what kind of birds are those?
what kind of birds are those?
Shot one last year. A little gamey, a lot
of dark meat, and buckshot to pick out.
Too much bother/
Now I just let them come and take the old apples
when they want.
