Default carb choice

hello. i am new here and would like to get some input on carbs. i presently have a 66 coupe with a 289 with hipo heads,a mild comp stick(not sure of the specs),full length headers, full msd igniton, and a 600 fcm edelbrock carb. i just swapped my performer intake for a performer rpm airgap intake and im thinking of changing carbs.i have a c4 automatic so i would need a carb with vacuum secondaries.i dont have alot of experince with carbs but was looking at either the edelbrock 650cfm avs or the holley 670 cfm street avenger. mainly street duty except for the occasional light to light run. more or less i am looking to squeeze everything out of this engine.it runs to good to replace. car dynoed 265hp,280ftlbs at the wheels.thanks for any help.

A 600 Holley Double Pumper would be fine. You don't need vacuum secondaries with an auto, you only need the kickdown linkage. Double Pumpers are easier to modulate and you don't have to worry about tuning the secondaries with little springs that will change with temperature.

ok. as of now i dont have the kick down linkage.i run a b&m mega shifter and when its time toget gettingi just manually shift it so i might be ok without the linkage. ifi can go the route of man.secondaries is holley the only way to fly or is there other options?

IMO, Holley is the best way to fly. There's also Demon carbs which are a bit more in price and looks. They are very similar, since Barry Grant basically developed the Demon instead of continuing to modify Holley's for the really picky carb people.

edelbrock is easiest to tune and tinker..holley is better for higher hp cars KINDA...but are tempermental..a 600dp on amild 289 isnt very efficent...a 600 maybe..
