Default Cleaning a T/B

Just got a used Mac 70mm T/B real cheapand it's kinda dirty. I know not to touch the "sludge" in the front, but the back of the butterfly valve is all greasy/grimey, as well as the walls behind the valve.

Can I clean these areas? If so, with what?

Also, the butterfly has a little 1/2" x 1/2" square of metallic tape on there. previous owner said he bought it new from mac like that...Should I leave it there or take it off?

ALSO... It didn't come with mounting screws or a gasket. Can I go to the dealer and get a replacement or do I need special screws from Mac?

Thanks...

as far as the bolts go, i bought the ones that hold my tb and egr on at home depot so i dont think it matters.

as far as wanting to clean some parts of the tb and not others, you could try carb cleaner on a q-tip

I would assume the screws from your stock tb / plenum would be the same - I don't see why they would be different. And you can clean the entire throttle body with carb cleaner. The "sludge" will come back unless the tb has been polished internally.

The tape was covering a small hole drilled in the t/b..Is that supposed to be there for when the car is idling or should I cover it back up?

Thanks again, it cleaned up nice....

try it first with the hole open and if the idle is too high and won't come down with the screw backed out all the way, put a new piece of tape over the hole and see if that doesn't make it better.
and vfast has socks older than most of you out here too! LOL
