Default Fuel filter placement "situation"

After taking a closer look at my fuel system, it looks as though my russel fuel filter is located after the engine in the RETURN fuel line before the pumps. I did not do the install and am very interested in hearing what this is all about and if I need to relocate it. Should it be between the tank and pumps since they are external pumps? , any advice is appreciated...

If Ive got 2 pumps externally mounted, will the filter be between the tank and my pumps?

You should havea pickup line per pump, and a filter right before each pump. You should also have a filter before the regulator, and before the carb.

Naturally, you'll want high flow filter. The reason for the multiple filters is simple. The filter before the pump protects the pump from debris in the tank. The filter before the regulator protect it from scaling in the lines or if the pump has a catastrophic failure. Same idea for the one prior to the carb.

Ill have to double check this because again I didn't do the install, but I'm pretty sure the pickup goes into a Y inorder to use a single filter which is a high flo Russell filter. Is it necessary to have a single filter on each pump because I obviously dont want $100 pumps dieing left and right.
