Mother's polishing ball. Take the wheels off and clean the insides and back of the spokes really well too. A lot of people neglect it, such as I have with this crappy weather, and it makes a big difference when the entire wheel is well maintained.

Eagle One All Wheel Cleaner is great for getting the brake dust and grime off, and I use Westley's Bleech White on the tires. Hardly any elbow work with those two products.

It really depends on the finish of the wheel. If its a painted wheel (silver usually), dont clean it any other way or use any chemicals that you wouldnt use on the rest of the finish of your car. That goes for machined finishes as well, because theyre clear coated after machining.
Chrome is a different story cuz usually there is no clear coat, a good non abrasive, non acidic cleaner is the best. Then get a specific chrome cleaner/polish.
-P.
PS: Always check on a hidden part of the wheel to see if it will damage the finish, BEFORE you do the whole wheel.

Factory wheel is clear coated. You'll want a clear coat safe polish/cleaner.
