Default stalling help

i have an old 302 carberated on a auto tranny. at start up u have too keep on the gas to keep it running till it warms up, also it stalls wen i stop unless i keep on the gas, changed the fuel pump what else could it be, carb?

If this has to do with the post above,or below as the case may be,it sounds to me like the idle is set too low.The idle should be set at around 700-750 rpm with the tranny in nuetral.If the idle won't hold to at least 650 rpm with the tranny in gear it could be a mixture problem.I'm going to say it's a little lean.Carb engines love rich mixtures until they are thoroughly warmed up.The problem you describe acts like the idle circuit should be enrichened a little at a time to see if it has any effect.Don't go in and change a bunch of things at once!Change only ONE setting at a time so you will know what actually had the desired effect.

Sounds like a choke problem. You want your idle around 700rpm while in Drive, not neutral. Definitely make sure the mixture screws are set correctly (1.5 to 2 out from bottom is a good start point).

You'll probably benefit from a carb rebuild as well.
