Hey, my winter vehicle is a 98 Jeep Cherokee and recently Ive been having issues with my brake lights. The other day my freind following me noticed my brake lights were staying on. After I shut the car off they stayed on too. I came back an hour later and they were off. Now two days later they are back on again and they wont go off even when the car is shut off. What could be causing this?

 

Check the switch on the pedal. See if its jammed.

 

where exactly is that located?

 

On the brake pedal....If its not DIRECTLY on the pedal then it is damn close to it right by where the pedal bolts to the dash.

I know how you feel about this, I had the same thing happen to me back in high school with my first truck. It was the switch behind the pedal like the other posters mentioned.

 

on most cars its a plastic push button that is either in front of, or in back of the brake pedal assembly up under the dash. A lot of times the button sticks. They are not hard to replace if they are bad
