Default need help with timing

I have a carbed 351w that I put into a 1995 body, and I used the procomp hei dist. I have the car running great at idle when I hit the gas and let off its backfiring really bad through both pipes. I just have the headers on it for now, I can see the backfiring. My plugs had what looked like carbon buildup already after about 10-15 minutes run time. I'm stumpped on this, anyone have any ideas, probably should have went with a different dist. huh? Thanks for any help!

It won't run with the dist. 180* around, popping through the carb, it runs great at an idle where its at now, I think I have found my problem, My vaccum advance was unpluged so I think my timing was being thrown off by that. Would that cause my excessive backfiring? I guess I'll see in the morning. thanks

Default RE: need help with timing

hey Streetbike dude,

What's the initial timing? What happens if you slowly increase the RPMs up to 1500, 2000, 3000?
Do you knowthe dizzy's built in timing (mechanical)?
Remember to check the timing with the vac. plugged at the carb. (no leaks there)
Awaiting answers.
