Default 99 Cobra differential vs solid axle differential

Does anyone know if there is a difference between the two? I am looking for a replacement unit but cannot find anything specifac to the cobra. I only ask because the Cobra has the IRS. Thanks!

well the answer is in your question, if the cobra's got IRS, its got independent suspension in the rear, a solid axle wouldn't work, becuase its basically a solid piece of metal across the rear of the car

No the axle tubes are pressed into the 8.8 center section on a solid axle 8.8, the axle tubes and center section are two different pieces. I think that the differential (chunk) is different but they share the same ring & pinion. I think that maybe the Lincoln, T-bird, etc. independant rears are the same.

I found out that the differentials are NOT the same, slightly different. Ford Racing or Torsen have the direct replacement. Cheaper than a rebuild by 1K. May as well replace the ring & pinion at the same time.....
