Do any of you know a way to check a vin number on a used vehicle for free?

If your buying it from a dealer you can request a carfax report. Or if you are getting it from a private owner and know someone that works at a car dealer, give them the vin and they can do it.

 

Don't think there'a anyone in the forum that ca help you run a free car fax...but I could be wrong.

Bought a CARFAX subsciptions three years ago when I was helping my daughter shop for her first car. For giggles, I thought I'd run my old Mazda truck vin to see what came up.

Nothing - totally clean - showed the title transfer to me as the original owner.

This truck had been in at least three major accidents over its life at that point, all with police reports, and paid for by insurance at licensed body shops.

That's the last CARFAX subscription I'll *ever* buy. Surprised these guys don't have some class action pending ifmy experience is indicative of their 'service'.

 

Just bought a trailblazer last week from a dealerand asked for a carfax and they got it for me no questions asked...........yeah I know I bought a Chevy but the price was right.......
