Supercharger question
I have a 2004 Mustang Gt. 20k on chassis and 1k on the motor. I recently had a vortech supercharger on it, and after two weeks it blew up. It made 363whp and 366wtq at 9psi, 12:1 A/F, and 16 degrees of timing. I had 42pound injectors with a 2003 SVT focus fuel pump, and it was tuned by the local dyno. I would like to put it back on. I do not care about max hp, just reliable hp. What A/F should I have, and what should the timing be set at. Please let me know any others way to make it reliable. Thanks
What blew up? The supercharger or the engine? What happened to it? I'm not seeing anything major that would cause that to happen (looking at your setup that you listed.) Timing may be a little steep, but if anything you would have pinging / detonation. Not sure how it would blow up your charger (that's what it sounds like you are saying.)
Did it just go out all of a sudden or did you get some warning signs first? COuld it have been damaged due to compressor surge? (Is there a Blowoff or bypass?)

The motor blew up. What happend was when I would hit 130mph, it would just bog out and not go any faster. So I went to the dyno and he hooked up a data loger. He couldn't get everything reading on the data-loger but I went and made some passes to make itbog out, it started at 130mph, then again at 110mph. I came back and he finally got everything reading correctly on the data-loger. I went and made another pass. I couldnt get it past 90mph, then when I went to turn around, it was miss-firing. We changed the spark plugs and four of them were completely demolished. We replaced them and found cyclinder #8 to be dead. I used 93 octane the whole time. They tried to say bad gas, but everyone else says to much timing. What happened? How can I make this work? Thanks.
Demolished spark plugs usually means they are too hot for your application. Did you install a cooler plug when you installed the charger? If not then that could be your issue.
Are you sure you werent getting any detonation? Sounds like it to me.

The guys at the dyno installed the charger. when they did that they put in cheap plugs because they said that cheap plugsrun cooler than the factory platnium ones. I was told it detonated which caused it to bog out at the speeds I listed in my last post. When it detonated the last time at 90mph, it started miss-firing. Thats when we pulled out the plugs four of them were completely gone ( the ends of them). The dyno told me it was bad gas, but me and other people think the dyno put to much timing in ti which caused it to detonate and kill cyclinder #8. What do you guys think happened? What was wrong with the setup the dyno did? What setup should i run next time?
#1 take it to somewhere else from now on,
#2 run a colder plug, go buy em urself (sry im forgetting the exact name)
#3 find out how much timing someone with a similar setup runs and compare

Yea, definitally going some where else. Its hard now to talk to people and compare because I can no longer hang out at the dyno. There is tons of information on here so ill keep looking for the right set up. If anyone finds it, please let me know.
Hello,
If you are interested in making the trip to a High performance shop in Michigan (Detroit area) I know of a great installer that owns his own shop and has been tuning mustangs for years. You may have heard of him (check the site). Here is the link http://www.alternativeauto.com/I am getting a whipple this spring and some suspension mods as well and he will be doing the install. He is the only one that dyno tunes all of the S/C placed on their customers cars. He has not had any fail in the last 11 yrs. He carries Vortech/Whipple (but can tune any car)and has been tuning them for years as well (authorized distributor). Hope it helps J
P.S. He is all about a safe tune and tries to convince others that want insane boost to go safe too or get a bottom end made for the increased boost (i.e. pistons, rods, block, etc)

He definitally sounds like a guy that sets up cars the way I want mine to be set up. I am moving up to cleveland here soon, i'll have to stop by and check him out. Thanks for the information.
