Super dumb how to question
There should be a set screw. It should be on the black tab part that is closest to the windshield. It should be a small allen head screw. Remove the screw and pull the rearview mirror assembly up towards the roof. Be careful not to pull too hard, there is a tab that mounts to the windshield that you do not wanna break off, because you could crack your windshield.

I don't know about the screw part, but if you need to get that pesky tab off, just take a bic lighter, and hold the flame on the tab, and not the glass, for 15-30 sec., then it will come right off, no window damage. Dont do this in cold weather though. It sounded bs to me too, but I've done it several times.
