Default Super dumb how to question

I need to replace the review mirror on my 2000 Stang. How does the old one come off? Replacing it with OEM. Mirror cracked in original. Thanks.

There should be a set screw. It should be on the black tab part that is closest to the windshield. It should be a small allen head screw. Remove the screw and pull the rearview mirror assembly up towards the roof. Be careful not to pull too hard, there is a tab that mounts to the windshield that you do not wanna break off, because you could crack your windshield.

I was told there is no set screw in there. That you actually take a small flat screw driver to get it loose from the mount. Anyone know for sure?

I don't know about the screw part, but if you need to get that pesky tab off, just take a bic lighter, and hold the flame on the tab, and not the glass, for 15-30 sec., then it will come right off, no window damage. Dont do this in cold weather though. It sounded bs to me too, but I've done it several times.

Drop by a shop somewhere and ask a mechanic. I'm sure they'd tell you right.Be real careful with screwdrivers or lighters. Glass can crack so freakin easy.

Do NOT take the tab (mount) off of the window...otherwise you will have to epoxy it back on agian when you replace the mirror. Go to wally world and get a cheap set of allen keys...i got a set for like 2 bucks....

I wasn't suggesting taking the tab off, that was more of a future reference type of deal.
