Default help car wont start....

ok guys this is not a mustang but im sure there plenty of knowledge floating around to get an idea....
my friend bought a 92 eagle talon awd turbo, on the way home the car shuts off will not restart! has the starter rebuilt does the same thing.... when it tries to crank its like the power is grounding out even the batt volts drop to about 2, we took the starter off and it works... the power and kick on wires are fried like they have been grounded out and when you try to crank it you can tell the wires are trying to burn... any advice of what the problem is??? thanks guys

If you're smelling burning, etc...then there's a pretty good chance there's a wiring / electrical issue. Just curious why you guys would rebuild or blame the starter on this one. if the car shut off while driving then that has nothing to with the starter.

However, a bad alternator could cause these symptoms... Low batery voltage, engine dies while running, smell of burning wires or electrical problems., etc.

he took the starter to advanced and they said it was bad so he had it rebuilt... i have been thinking about it all day and i think the block is locked up! the battery shows 12 volts and when you try and crank it the volts on the entire system drop to almost nothing... and when the starter is off it works fine with no electrical problems

well this comming from someone who hasa huge ammount of experience with those cars (former engine builder) i think u should pull off your dohc cover and look at the timing belt to see if its still in one piece! that would definately be a good place to start if you think the block is locked up, it probably launched the belt like they are known for and wiped the valves into the pistons i built those cars for about 4 years and got so incredibly sick of parts breaking every time i turned my head, that i went with a GT, then another GT, and now a cobra

the engine has already been built it has wiseco pistons hks cams and some kind of super timing gear belt... its huge! the timing gears wont even budge... when the car was bought the owner said the oil was getting in the water and thought it was from a headgasket from a boost spike???

A battery with a dead cell will still read nearly 12 volts as long as there is no load on it. If the engine is off, always turn the headlights on before using a voltmeter on a batter, it needs to be under a load to show it's true volts
