Default front end popping

Hi, does anyone know anything about the front end popping in the sn95 body style. Mine is doing it sometimes and usually while I'm turning the wheel.

Lots of possible reasons... How many miles? Ball joints? Bushings? I wouldn't think sturts or bearing...

Do you have any mods? I have cross-drilled slotted rotors and I have had the issue when backing up and turning and then going forward a handful of times. It was over a 2 month period not before or since and everything is tight in my front end and gone over with a fine tooth comb... It would happen as soon as I started moving forware. My car was not lowere at at that point. Is yours lowered?

It's a 1995 Cobra with 89,000 miles on it. It's a babied car and I take great care of it. The popping just started about a week ago and the the steering wheel does not have any play in it or vibration. It only does it in the morning when I back out of the driveway. I do have mods on it an they include BBK full length headers, off road x-pipe, magnaflow exhaust, pulleys, new King Cobra clutch, and 373 gears. The car is not lowered at this time, however, I do want to in the future.

I had a similar sound in my last car(95 Mustang) and did the ball joints but didn't fix it so went to a dealer and turned out to be tie rod ends. Had around 100,000 miles on it. Fixed it and got rid of slight shimy on bad roads.

you can check you balljoints easily in driveway without even jacking up the car. Just use a prybar and pry up on the spindle, there should be little to no play in them. If you do jack the car up make sure you keep weight on the side your checking. When I check the play on a car on a lift I put a tranny jack underneath the control arm to put a load on the suspension.

Checking for play like Mustangman describes is good for well. um, checking for play.

My 93 had a bad ball joint the made a seriously loud popping sound. 2 mechanics passed it off as ok because it looked new and it had no play.
Next mechanic to a guess, swapped the ball joint and my noise was gone.

Should ball joints and tie rods be replaced in pairs?
