Default '83 stang carburetor compatability

Hi. I'm a new member here. I've got a problem I was wondering if any of you could help with. I've got an 83 mustang convertible glx v6 3.8L. It's got about 150,000 miles on it and several problems, the biggest of which is stalling. It's been worked on several times, and simply put, I need a new carburetor. The ford dealership that works on my car can't find a carb to use, so i took it upon myself to find one.

I don't know all that much about car engines, and was wondering what other carbs might fit. For example, could an 83 V8 5.0L carb (such as this one: ebay auction) be made to fit (without spending a fortune)?? Could you suggest other carbs that might fit or where i could buy a new one that would work?? If there is some other universal carb type # i should know that would help me know which carbs will work that would be useful too.

Thanks alot.. [>:]

I'm guessing it's a 2 barrel carb? Is that correct?

You should be able to get an aftermarket carb for it. You might want to call the 800 number at Jegs website, they will probably have one that will work.

or you can go with a 390 4 barrel holley if you have a 2 barrel intake all you need is an adapter plate..gas mileage and throttle response will improve

thanks, i'm not sure what my engine is, i'm guessing 2 barrel. The V8 models i found for this model year are all four-barrels

okay i did, it does seem to be a 2 barrel. But so yes, you can use an adapter of some sort to make it work. okay, thanks
