Default electric fan conversion

I just fot an electric fan for my 87 lx 5.0 does anybody have any suggestions how to wire it. I dont really want to buy arelay kit, just seems like a waste of money, I was just going to wire it to some constant electric sourse that is on when the ignition is and just put an inline fuse in it, dont know which sourse to wire it to though, any suggestions??? thanks

Default RE: electric fan conversion

The relay is needed because the level of current
drawn from the fan will overheat small gauge wire.
Overheat means eventually a fire.
If you connect it to a lighting circuitor other
switched circuit the fuse will probably burn out before
any fire. However, do you want your headlights or
ignition to go out when you are cruising 85 at night?

Since the main battery is near the fans location you
could use heavy gauge wire to the post, but I doubt
you will find a switched source.
