Default MAC filter or K&N

I have a Mac air induction fender install on my 01 Gt and it has the huge MAC (k&n style) filter on it. I have read about people having the same setup and using the real K&N filter instead of the MAC one it comes with. I do have the K&N just sitting there (seeing that I had to remove it) and was wondering if the K&N would perform better and would it even fit inside the fender.

I have a K&N filter not the cold air induction kit but Im thinking that it should fit. Dont most air filter sizes change with the year's of the cars not the mods...im thinking any filter could be interchanged with any induction system as long as u stay with the same type

ie cone filter to cone filter, or drop in filter to drop in filter

Give it a shot. I've seen flow test results on all the popular filters, and only two out flow the k&n. The wix glass filter used in qualifying in nascar, and the wix paper filter used in nascar races.

Yeah I know K&N is known for their great quality filters, but was wondering if replacing the MAC one would cut a bit of performance. The MAC one is oversized(thinking more air would flow in) compared to the K&N but K&N does specialize in performance filters.

Heres a pic of the filter:
