Airbag reset

Airbag reset
Wife wrecked son's car. Both airbags deployed. I am told the computer needs to be reset before installing new airbags(by the way these seem to be pricey). Anyone have experience with this? Thanks in advance for the help. Dan

RE: Airbag reset
My Stang is a 93. back in 2001i had to replace the bag. There was a clockspring behind that thankfully was ok and i could reuse it. I forget how to tell a bad clockspring from a new one tho. I putthe new bag in myself which was about $300 or so just to get one. They are a bit pricey but they can save your life so that $300 was pocketchange considering the alternative.
I let the battery disconnected before i installed the new bag which i didnt get to until 2 days later. Im told theres a power backup for the bag in the event of an accident and the new bag can go off if the system isnt discharged first. True? Not sure but i took no chances.
Before i put the new bag in the airbag light would stay lit. After replacing the bag and hooking up the connections the light went off and stayed off. My light will come on with the key but go off when started, thats normal and just lets you know there are no problems. If it stays on see a dealer.
I dont know if newer models are the same way as mine but if they are, then replacing the bag and clockspring (if needed) should 'reset'the bag.
Ive had no problems since installing my bag.
If you got that OBD2 stuff, than i cant help there as i dont touch that stuff.

RE: Airbag reset
When your airbags deploy you have to get a new airbag module. Which I believe is under the center counsel. But I'm only guessing because you didn't tell us what year car we are talking about here[:@].
It's pretty easy just disconnect the batt.take the old bags out put the new ones in and than put the new module in.
