Default To rebuild the engine or not

My first post. I am not the smartest person in the world on engines, in fact I hardly know anything about them other than how they work. Ibought a 1993 5.0 LX about8 months ago. I have completely redone the interior, now Iwant to work on the motor and exterior. I drive the carabout 60 miles every day.The engine has about 144 thousand miles on it, and I assume that it is getting time to do something to the engine to ensure that it will last for a long time. The guy that had it before me put a K&N intake, flowmasters, and a performance distributor (forgot the name)on the car. I am not really looking to add a ton of horsepower, a little would be nice though. Imainly would like to know what I should do to the engine. I see a lot of peopleon this boardpurchasing crate engines. Is that the right thing to do, or should I just have the engine rebuilt? If I rebuild theengine, what does that consist of? Do I need to pull the whole thing out or should I just replacesome of the internal components, pistons, cam, etc... Is there a book out there that can give someone like me recommendations on what to do and how to do it? The car runs fine, I would just like to do some small upgrades to ensure longevity of the car and to maybe add a little horsepower. Like I said though, this is my daily driver, so I am not taking it to the track during my time off. Thanks in advancethe help.
