See what I don't get is when I bought the Si they never checked the price tag I paid for hte car, they usually just tax you based on the year of the car. It costs more to register a newer car, and a higher percentage of that price is the actual tax they add onto the tag.

Not sure about where your from but from but in GA theirs NO tax, other than tag & title, when you buy from a PP

ok i live in CA, so if i bought from Geogria i wouldn't have to pay sales tax? i think i would cuz CA would find a way.

I used to live in CA but now in GA.

I don't think there is a sales tax in private party sales, but the state will definitely get you when registering it and getting tags for the vehicle. The DMV will want to see the bill of sale.

I think everything is based on the price you paid for it. I would ask the seller to write a bill of sale for less than you paid for your purchase. I don't think he/she will refuse because they feel the same way you do. When I purchased a used boat, the sellers were willing to drop the price on the bill of sale to give us a break. It doesn't hurt to ask.
