anyone with after market shifter!!!
Heads up guys i need some help from the people who have taken off their center consoles to replace a shifter.... Someoone tell me how to get it off without breaking it(the console), the bastards who put in my new carpet cut the wires for my overdrive button and the lights on my shifter bezel, need to know how to get to them to reconnect them. Thanx guys!

don't know about the '97's, but on my '88 Fox there are two bolts at the rear of the console hidden under plastic pop out plugs and another two bolts up front on both sides that are almost hidden too. then you have to remove the rubber boot around the shifter and there are some more screws under here. carefully pop off any plastic covers you find and look for more bolts under them and eventually you will find them all and get the console loose. there are some wiring plugs you need to disconnect to get it out so be careful how far you move things before you unplug the wiring under it. on mine there's one to the light for the shifter and anothe for the ash tray light and the mirror controls are also in the Fox console, don't know about the newer ones though.

im not sure if it is the same on an auto as a manual, but the whole astic part around your shifter should just pop right off from the rest of your console. it shouldnt be too much different on an auto than a manual.

thanx for the help guys i just yanked it offa there, it just clips in, but, that damn auto shifter is all kinds of in the way so i couldn't see where my wires were cut or disconected(if they even are), and yes, I did check my fuses, I'm at a loss as to what to do next. Can't turn off my overdrive=not cool.
