spec clutches
i have your typical bolt on mustang. i installed a spec stage one clutch about 4000 miles ago, and it is slipping horribly. i broke it in slowly, adjusted it accordingly, and it was good for a while. the other night goto launch it on the street with bald cooper cobra tires and the clutch lit up with smoke instanly. i thought spec was supposed to be good, i mean the stage 1 was rated for 410 ft lbs, anyone else experience problems with their spec clutches?
Spec sells inferior products but if you call their tech side prepair to be yelled and cursed at.
Enough spec clutchs go bad to cause a moderate problem for them but they refuse to accept that they make a poor product.
I bought a spec III for my stang a few years ago and drove it around less than 100 miles, it wasnt gripping like it should and even under normal "Grandma" driving the damn thing would hob like a freakin rabbit.
Took it back to my mechanic and he took it out, he told me that the pressure plate was warped and that his n00b tech missed it on instalation. He said that a pressure plate just cant warp, it has to be made that way. He took a peice of wood and laid it accross and it was visible warped.
I called spec requesting to send it back in for them to check it out, I got transfered to somone and then the name calling and cursing rung in.
I never rose my voice or became rude but all of a sudden I was the worst type of person on the planet to this guy (A customer with a bad part.) It was nothing but him cursing me out for 3-4 minutes where I couldnt get a word in edgewise. He was screaming how they dont make defective partsand that they would never let one out the door if it had a problem. The rest was yelling and cursing.
He said something about beingeither the shop manager or owner, either one.
So I called back later(When he wasntyelling) and Isaid "Hi, I had the warped pressure plate, I am going to spread the news about how you treated this problem and how you acted." And here it all came again, every cursing you could think of screaming and yelling to the point where the speaker on the phone couldnt make anything out as a clear word.
Like I said,Spec has enough problems to be notticable to about 1out of 10 people who buy one. They deny it though, those other 9 people love their spec.
I had a problem with Ram Clutches and they replaced my clutch disk no problem, they were completly awesome about everything!!
At this point I can only really say, get another clutch disk for it and see if that helps your problem at all. If not then drop it.
