bad alternator?

could a bad alternator be a cause of your car cranking over but not starting? or what about a bad distributor?

isnt the alternator orthe battery would be dead. might be dist. or coil is it getting gas, is it getting spark to the plugs does it have any codes

oh yeah maybe netraul safty switch wont let it start check the other stuff i said first
