Default SVO TURBO COUPE SWAP

ok well i have a 1993 mustang 2.3 5 speed...now i am thinking of keeping it after i do a paint job and basicly after that thers really nothing other than the usual problem or tune ups...brakes and the common part to replace....now i was thinking i need an engine that does well on gas..and i need it to really well on gas....i have found that a turbo coupe or svo engine gets rather good gas milage and they still have the horse power of a 5.0 yet not as good tourque...now i am think i know that it won't get as much power out of the engine but i mean i don't want a drag car...i want a car with good bragging rights and something fun to drive around with yet the daily use....would this be a good thing to do for me...the guy at advance auto parts said he did one and its really nice...he has two mustangs and sugged it to me over a 5.0 swap because there easy and most parts you can re use..i mean there isn't so much to change over...good thing or bad thing you guys opinion...i know you 5.0 guys are going to be like no its stupid or something of the sort but you can't really say you get good gas miage...i mean its like 15 mpg for city driving which i do but i drive like 30 miles everyday to school and then 3 back..i also drive to get my g/f go places its a lot of both worlds and right now i don't have all the money in the world to spend on gas...so please give me your opinions and any experience you have in the matter...tell me pros...cons..anything like it...any other motors you would suggest for me to put in the car...damn just tell me what you would do so i have some choices...i love to try different things which is one reason why i want to do the turbo swap...i know there lag but its always fun to hear the spulling(SP) up...well thanks for you time and long period of distress over the lengthy post

Well ive done both 5.0 and TC swaps and ill tell you the 5.0 can be done blind folded damn near!

But the TC swap isnt that much more complicated.I assume youre going to want to use a EFI 2.3 T for fuel economy so ill go into what that takes.

First you need the engine and tranny (5 speed) unless you cant drive a stick then use your A4LD but it wont last long.Along with the engine you need the computer and wiring harness.Aside from those things you really dont have to do much more than install the engine of course and then wire in your new computer which consists of unplugging one and plugging in the other along with running the TC wiring harness front the passenger side kick panel to the engine bay and to the necessary sensors and what have you.Not having to do a tranny swap with make this very easy on you but if you do a tranny swap its not much more work.Unless you go from auto to manual.

Let me know you need any more help or if i can walk you through the details.

don't know the torque numbers for the turboed 4 banger but the 5.0 manual trannies are rated to handle over 300 ft-lb of torque, so unless you're going to make more than that with the new engine, you can still use the T-5 you already have.
and I think building up a good 4 banger is fine when you can't afford to go with a V-8, at least it ain't no damn import!

well the thing is that i am 16 right...i work as a bagger at a geisslers and i make like 60 dollars a week...15 for lunch and 25 to fill the tank in my car if i have to but its really good on gas so if i do everything right i can make it like a 1 1/2 -2 weeks on a tank if i dont' do to much other driving...so basicly i have to fix my car also...so need a car thats good on gas milage but i still want it to be fast and i mean if i get a motor and i build it up before i put it in it will fine for me...and i dont' think my tranny will handle it i mean the 2.3T doesn't have as much torque but i mean i don't want to screw anything up...so i am going to get the parts first and do everything right and then do the swap in the summer if i have the parts and the time....thanks for your help...but i want the 2.3 T to have lets say from 250-300 (i want 300 hp for the finaly hp on my car)....that would be a nice car for me...and i can race people when they pull up next to me...that way when i get a ricer next to me i can just step on the gas and blow by him...thanks

60$ a week? dude theres no way you can live off of 60$ a week and still fix a car unless u plan on it taking a while. I am in school 5 days a week and i make about 250 a week, 100 between gas, food, etc, 50 for going out on the weekends drinking or w/e i do, then 100 for my car... i just cant see someone actually living off 60$...

Get a new job. It's not all that hard for a highschool kid to find a part time job and make 150-200 a week.
