put a screw into the metal behind radio and add a stand alone ground... trust me its better that way.. the factory ground won't do well</P>

i was an installer for about 4 years and had a shop in hattiesburg, and we found on the older vehicles we could attain more stability throught the use of an isolated ground.. ie no engine, no white noise.. i believe on a meter you would see a drop of like 1.25 volts on the factory ground where as you could have a clean circuit witha self tapping screw into the metal in about the same time.

a factory radio puts out maybe 6 to 10 watts and pulls less current.. aftermarket radios rated a 45x4 have a continuous of about 14 to 16 pending of the voltage of the car.. some cars have 11 volts running threw them while others are around 15 ie a lax voltage regulator. the factory ground has a long run to it which tends to get weaker over length. just a handy tip to think of if you by some chance end up with a little whine in your system, checked your amp grounds and are lost, reground the radio

the fox bodies are known to produce quite a bit of alternator whine when the stock ground is used. I usually used a ground strap on mine or just let the stereo chassis ground to the dash mount.

Also if you have any additional equipment such as amps, EQs, and/or crossovers it is best to ground everything to the same ground
