key cylinder locked!!
I am working on a 2002 ford mustang v6 auto. I just went to start the car and the key wont turn. I have tried twisting the steering wheel, adjusting tilt, shaking the shifter,as well as another key. Nothing works. if someone has had this problem or knows the fix please post.thanx.
keep pulling it should happen to go a little farther and then they key will turn...had it happen to my mom had to get out and pull on the steering wheel while she turned the key....i had my body out of the car...it was hard but it would happen..is your wheel turned really far...
lol. Maybe insted of telling this guy to keep turning the wheel after he has already done it numberous time think of something else. Maybe you have a bad ingition cylinder. Remove youre steering column cover assembly. Like 3 screws. Then on the bottom of the ign. cylinder there is a small hole. Turn to acc. and get a punch and hammer. and punch that small tab in the hole and then remove the ignition cylinder. Then see if you can move it... if not then its bad. ALSO, you can try to put the key in and then whack the end of the key with a hammer and do it a few time. Alot of times the tumblers fall out of place and you can whack it a few times and get it to turn. If it eventually turns replace the ignition cylinder.
Casper GT: I think it is the cylinder, that was a good recomendation but the cylinder would not turn at all so i couldnt try the punch. the car has now been towed to the shop so I will find out the problem tomorrow. Thanx to everyone for the help.
In the case of it not turning what so ever. alot of them dont. So you have to whack the key inside of the cylinder. If that doesnt work, they will have to drill it out. I have done that too... not fun.
