Default is high miles a problem???

Hi,
Still looking for a mustang to import to the u.k, have seen quite a few v6 with high miles, around 50,000 to 70,000 miles, can anyone tell me roughly how many miles a v6's engine and tranmission, auto and manual are good for?

They could be good for only 10,000 miles from the factory depending on how it's driven and taken care of.

Figuring you found a well maintained car that was driven by a old lady, 140-160k isn't unusual before it needs a major overhaul.

well if you get a vehical that has 150,000 or around there i mean if it was well taken care of then its probably ok but buying it could lead to problems because it is an old engine...it probably wasn't beaten on which is why its still alive but engines have wear(SP) over time and they need to have certain things done....buying something with 100,000 isn't bad given hows its driven...so buying a car with lower miles is better in most cases but buying one with higher miles isn't always bad

It depends on how those miles were put on. If it's a lot of highway miles then 100K+ isn't as bad as a 100K mile car that was mostlydriven in town.
Also depends on the previous owner. I would hesitate to buy a mustang from some teenager.
It would be nice to find one that a little old lady owned and only drove to church on Sundays...LOL

my friends dad has a mustang from 79 stang 2.8L V6, the car has 450,000 km's all the oil changes have been done 5,000k each time, Only major work has been done was timing chains / upper and lower gaskets / water pump / fuel pump. Otherwise the engine runs very well, Not blow by on the exhaust.

I would be more concerned with the condition of the body and chassis than I would the engine if I was going to import one from the USA to Britain. Avoid used cars from the northern states since they get lots of snow and ice and used lots of salt on the roads which attacks the car bodies and rots them out badly. try to find one from down south of Virginia or from the southwest where they don't get all the snow and the road salt problems. the engine and tranny can always be rebuilt fairly easily, but not the body or chaissis.
