delete plates
I have searched on the internet and on this website and can't find the answer so I probably suck at creating searches. But I was just wondering what exactly are delete plates and what do they really do to increase hp? As far as I can tell, they do something with your intake, but like I said, can't get to the bottom of it. Anyone want to fill me in?
Well, I finally found somewhat of an explanation on Brenspeed.com when I looked them up as if I was going to order them. From what I gather, there are factory plates in between the intake and heads (at least on the S-197 4.6's) with fins or some sort of "obstruction" to tumble the air as it goes into the port. The delete plates remove that obstruction and the claimed result was 5rwhp @ WOT, but a little sacrifice to low-end torque. So, it is more for a race application.
I can understand removing the "tumble plates", as they were referred to, will remove a restriction and free up hp, but I would think that the tumbling air may help atomize the a/f mix as it goes in to the cylinder, which burns better meaning more hp, but you wouldn't have with the delete plates, which I would think would mean less hp. Maybe they can flow that much more air without them, though. I don't know...
