Default Oil change question

Ok, so this isn't for a Mustang, but I figured someone here might know the answer. I was about to perform an oil change on my gf's 1997 Maxima, but when I attempted to jack it up the wheels stayed firmly planted on the ground. I don't know if my jack doesn't lift high enough, or if it's a problem with the front suspension maybe? Anyone familiar with this? Before anyone asks, I was jacking from the correct point on the vehicle per the manual.

you're just not jacking it high enough

i prefer to jack it up at the A-arm one side at a time, but that's just me...

Odds are you aren't jacking high enough, or your jack can't lift that much weight. Check how much the car weighs, and how much your jack can lift. And, if it can lift it up, just keep jacking it up. You're not trying to get the wheels off the ground, per se. You're just trying to get the body off high enough for you and an oil pan to get in there and drain out the oil. I wouldn't really worry about the wheels. I changed my Mustang's oil with out the wheels being off the ground.

Is your jack in the right spot? You could be in a soft point and just making a big-@$$ dent in the body.

Definitely jacking it up in the right spot. I should have been a little clearer... the body lifts up as high as I jack it up, the wheels just stay on the ground. I tried using the factory supplied jack as well (that definitely should go high enough to lift the tires) and still had no luck. From a standpoint of an oil change, the jack gave me plenty of clearance under the body, but I'm concerned if she blows a tire on the highway she'll have no way to take the wheels off. Just wasn't sure if this is a sign of bad shocks or something.

If its not a straight front axel which a maxima isnt you have to jack the car from one side on the a arm or if you prefer the center you get a jack that jacks higher and eventually it will lift both tires up. Good luck..
