Info on 331 stroker motor
I hope im in the right area, but... Im planning on building a 331 stroker for my Ranger. I have a block, but it still needs to be hot-tanked and magna fluxed. So until i do that i dont know if its legit or not. One thing that confuses me is, what heads can i use. Im pretty sure i can get a stroker kit from CHP. strokerkits.com has some too but i dont know if they are reputable or not. Any info from you guys on what i can stick to my 302 block if its good? I WANT so supercharge it one of these days. Any parts that are recommended? Im going to do an electric water pump. Unless someone can talk me out of it. As far as the timing goes, Im going to use the gear drive from Edelbrock. Im just picking peoples brains to see what i can find out i can do with the 331 setup for my baby.
Any heads for a 302 will work fine. The valve size and combustion chamber size will be determined by what you want from the engine. For future supercharging, you'll want to keep the compression ratio down, which will hurt performance until the supercharger is added. You'd be best to put the supercharger on during the build so you can start with an 8:1 CR, instead of starting with 9 or so.
You stock 302 block is good up to 450-500 hp, but I wouldn't push it much harder than that.

Thanks, i wasnt sure what to use for heads. I was mainly looking for a torque monster as i do not need to be going too fast in my ranger. They roll to easily, haha. As for the supercharger, is it just me or does the Wieand blowers just look bad ***. I see a lot of people using the vortech type. Thanks for the info.

thats only necessary on motors running tons of boost. for 10-12psi of boost, more then im sure he will ever run, you can start with 9:1 and have no problems. i ran 9.5:1 and 10psi of boost on my 302. never pinged.
