i have 67 stang with 302 in it, the tranny is a c4. the tranny shift into second gear to fast then into thrid gear to fast, then it sounds and feels like the engine wants too shift again?? it sounds like its whining out and reving to high, like it needs to shift again. can any help me? i don't know if tranny needs adjusting or what. thanks

 

Well first off, a C4 is only a 3speed...so its goin to wind out 3rd gear because it doesnt have another one to go into. Is it shifting too fast under heavy throttle? Adjust the kickdown cable and you should be able to delay the shift.

 

thanks, but my problems is when its in third gear it sounds and feels like it wants to shift again. thats what i meant, sorry if there was some confusion.. it whines out in third gear. any suggestions?

 

Of course it sounds like it wants to shift again, but a C4 only has 3 gears. As previously mentioned it doesnt have anymore gears to shift into so the rpms will continue to climb. With my 289/C4 combo with 3.55 gears on the highway im running 3000 rpms. Thats the reason why some guys swap AODs into C4 equippedcars.

 

yes, i understand it has only 3 gears but, this thing sounds like its reving at 6000 rpms not 3000. thats what i mean when i say it wants to shift again. and i'm only doing about 40 mph

 

If you have a rear end that is used for the track
you will have the same problem.

If you believe your speed and rpms
what are the RPMs and MPH in each geer?

 

Trans might be slipping. Bands adjusted or it may need to be rebuilt.
