Default changing breaks...

My breaks are startin to squeek a little and i just wanted to know where i could find a nice write up on changing them. I heard you need a special tool to change the back breaks, anyone know how much that would run me and where a good place to buy some break would be? I dont need anything fancy i just have a daily driver v6 but i wanna change the breaks myself

the tool your talking about is a pad spreader. When you take the caliper off the piston will be too far out to fit the new/thicker pads on and will need to be pushed back into the caliper. The pad spreader is a tool that makes it easy to push it back in but it can be done with a C-clamp if you have one. Just go to your local auto parts store and ask for breaks they should have a cheap, midgrade, and performance set and they should have the tools needed in stock. Good luck changing them, we all gotta start somewhere

Edit: i forgot that my old 96 V6 mustang needed a special tool to actually spin the piston back into the caliper,i dont know if they kept the same design until 03

channel locks will compress the caliper pistons just fine....as for the rear...like 91lx said...get a brake cube...you will need a 3/8" extension also...

all cubes are the same the one that i got isnt a cube it only has one pattern made for only a few ford models, all the ones on the cube were much too small trust me i tried. I still have the tool and havent used it in about a year and a half so if you need it its yours. Hopefully someone with a new edge V6 will chime in
