Droping in an engine - Shop Cost?
So if I was to drop a 351 into a mustang how much does a shop usually charge? It would be fuel injected, non-carb. What's the ballpark range? Of course hooking up all the wires and everything else...
And to pull out a trans too?
Basically, my friend who is a mechanic will be doing all the work. He said to split the cost in half. He will be doing a lot of work, when I mean a lot of work, I mean a lot of work.
This is what we plan on doing.
Turning a 2000-2004 V6 Mustang into a 03-04 Cobra(but with a whole different motor). I plan on doing mild setup, nothing to extreme. But with a little kick. We have a lot of measuring to do. If we can do it, he said we could, we are going to drop a Windsor 351 94 Roller motor in it. But, we do understand that has a tall deck, so we might have to switch to a 4.6, because the 03-04 cobra hood prolly isn't tall enough.
So this is the plan with the performance package I plan to do.
Nice Motor(351 or a very nice 4.6)
Supercharger(low Boost 8-10psi)
Stronger Trans
03-04 Body work
And of course all the little things(Computer swap, wiring....)
So I planned on paying him 2k - 2.5k for everything. I will be helping him with the body work. You think thats a good price I should charge him for most of the work or do you think I should charge him less.
I also will take your recommendations on what engine I will be throwing in this baby. The 351 windsor isn't a for sure thing, it's just that he has a brand new windsor block in his garage. And a good trans to go with?
