Creaking sound from steering
I have an '04 gt w/16,000 miles. When I turn at very low speeds (1-5 mph) or if I'm stopped and turning the wheel, I hear a slight "creaking" sound from the steering system... kind of like what you would hear from an old door opening. It's not very loud or anything, but I don't know what could be the cause. I have BBK UDP's, and I think maybe this is the cause... Could my UDP's, because of the reduced power to the power steering pump, have damaged my steering somehow? Or is it maybe just low on steering fluid or lube? I'm aftraid of taking it to a dealer because they will just say, "well it's the pullies you installed, no doubt" and tell me that I need a whole new power steering system which won't be covered on the warranty since I installed the pullies. I'd rather not have to blow $500-$1000 if I don't have to. The steering works fine, it's just that the creaking sound at low speed (such as when pulling into or out of a parking space)is getting me worried. I'm not very knowledgeable about car repairs, so if anyone knows what this could be before I make a dealer appointment, please help
Thanks!
Thanks!
Get out and have someone turn the steering wheel while you listen for noises. When you find the noise, take the car to a reputable shop and replicate the noise and after you both agree on the source of the noise, have it fixed.
No the pulleys didn't cause the noise but an undamped crankshaft could break into several separate parts.Did you use the old stock damper when you installed the UDP's?
