Default Which Oil??

I recently had three different people tell me to use different motor oils, they all swear they are correct.
Any ideas?

Oil is like opinions, everyone has one. Choose 1, and stick w/ it. I use Mobil 1, it's just my choice. It has performed great, so i continue to use it. there are a lot of good oils on the market, like i said, it's preference.

Default RE: Which Oil??

I do not know the implications of motor oil choice for modern engines but there does appear to be an issue with motor oil choice in older engines with flat tappets or those breaking in new cams with flat tappets.

A zinc compound is being discontinued in most street application motor oils and this zinc compound appears to be critical to proper lubrication at the cam-tappet interface, especially during the early break in period. Some are advocating the addition of a zinc additive. Others suggest certain off-street racing oils. I do not know which path is best given the diversity (and adversity) of opinion on the matter. Hopefully an informed concensus will be arrived at and those of us with older engines can make them last a little longer.

I do not think this issue has a significant effect on OH cams or rollers.

Hope this helps.

For newer stock engines, I'd consult the owners manual.

I use Amsoil 5w30, they guarantee it to last 25000 miles or one year, and the same for the filter if you use theirs. I change it sooner but thats what they say.

pennz full synthetic 5w20 with motorcraft filters on the 2006GT @ 5,000 mile intervals and i believe i'll be just fine. i hated the tought of using 5w20 in a V8 but its recommended for use in most everything now from ford (and honda). i use 10w40 pennzoil dino in my older stuff, with 3,000 mile changes
