I am currently trying to decide between buying a 03' Cobra or buying a 2000-2002 GT and putting a supercharger on myself. My question is would the 03' Cobra be more reliable? I'm wanting to know if the internal engine components (pistons, head gaskets)
are more suitable to handle the supercharger vs a stock 4.6 engine having a supercharger added on. Thanks for any input.

First off the 03+ Cobra is all forged internals with a block stout enough to be launched from a cannon and used again. Stock 4.6 GT internals are hyperutectic, which is better than cast but, not nearly as good as forged. Also the 03+ Cobras have nearly unbreakable T-56 six speed trannies. They already have a 3.55 rear gear which is perfect for the roots blower. Add some free flowing exhaust, a pulley swap, a dyno tune and, youll see some numbers that a street driven GT would envy. Later on you could port/polish the S/C or, better yet, swap the eaton out for a twin screw. Then you could dyno tune it and, if you do it right 600rwhp awaits you. To top it off, you would have a Cobra .

 

Definitely get the cobra. Although having a sleeper of a GT would be awesome, an 03 cobra is a BEAST!!

Cobra all the way dude, not only does it sound cooler than GT, but the snake logo is the coolest thing eva, i love the body style of it! the bumpers, the wheels, the whole friggin thing makes me want to make love to the car....i wish i had one!!!!!!!

 

Cobra all the way, The internals are much better, and you can swap out the roots style blower in the cobra for a twin screw, for instance the 2.2L Kb and work with like 600-700ish rwhp if you run like 15-20 psi all on the stock block.

 

If you got the money get the snake. If not get the gt and build her up. The quickest street car I've seen at our local track is an 02 gt that runs 11's. I've seen it outrun numerous cobras. He goes by mdvaldosta on the forums. Something bout a gt taking down a cobra, vette, viper....

 

If you have the money, get the Cobra. You're starting a few performance steps ahead, and if you're serious about performance, that's the way to go. Or you could try to find a built GT with forged internals and ported heads and put a Vortech on it and be a cold-blodded killer. I know where one is. PM me if you want to know.

 

Thanks to all for the input, I have been leaning to the Snake anyway.
It will probably be 9-12 months before the funds will allow any chance
of a serious look to buy.

 

Get the cobra man. The engine is pretty much built to take the boost. It would be definitely more reliable in the long run especially if you want to run a little more than 8 psi.
