Default GT Clutch Plate Problem

I've a 2000 Mustang GT (manual) and the cars runs good, but when I stop and move (typically traffic lights) the car from neutral to 1st gear, I can feel the differential engage the gear with a low thud from the back....(I dunno if I'm explaining the problem right??@$#!!) This happens only when i do it the first time...like when i slip to first gear it does that but after that even if i come back to neutral n try again it doesn't happen....and sometimes when you shift from neutral to first (to any gear as a matter of fact) I can feel the car kinda lurch forward juz half an inch or something....I really dunno if the clutch cable is not taut enough or I dunno if the problem is bad clutch plate....or if its something else....CAN ANYBODY TELL ME WHAT THE PROBLEM IS AND HOW MUCH DO YOU GUYS THINK WILL IT COST TO REPAIR THIS??? Thanks in anticipation.

PS: The car doesnt move when you hold you car in gear with clutch engaged. The car shift smoothly but for the above mentioned problem.

hey. i don't know if i fully understand what you are saying but it may be similar to something i have been curious about in my 01 GT. everything in my car is stock right now, and when i shift to ANY gear, i get a loud "THUMP" when letting the clutch pedal out. it doesn't matter how hard or soft. this is especially in first and second gear. kinda loud when going into first also. that "THUMP" is coming from my rear, but the obnoxious noises are coming from my shifter area.

i know I'm not answering your question, but i'm wondering if we have the same prob? I am under extended warranty until 75K and am now at 53K.

Thanks....even I suspect that...do you think re-cabling the clutch myself would be too much of work...should I just take it to a garage? because am not feeling rich enough to take my car to a garage...any suggestions on that?
