I have a 99 gt automatic and i was wondering if a shift kit would work well or make a difference. also is there a big difference between a stick and auto when it comes to racing.

every guy that wants performance and power out of his auto should grab a shift kit. And the sticks usually beat the auto trannys.

i also have an auto (2k gt), never i would want a stick (grew up w/autos) but when my dad got a porshe boxter w/stick which i thought he'd never do he's an auto guy too, i want a stick now.

what's a good brand to get, how much, how much to install, what's a stall converter do?

It all depends on how you tune your auto to shift. If you tweak the computer a little and change your rev-limter and raise your shift points then you can beat a stick b/c of the power/time loss when a stick has to shift. But on the flip side...you loose more horsepower from flywheel to your rear wheels with an auto matic than you do w/ a stick...i think it is something like 15% loss with a stick and 20% loss w/ and auto. But you just need to compensate for that loss by tweaking you shift points and your rev-limiter.

Oh yea, and a 3200 stall should do nicely...it give you high-enuff stall and is still pretty streetable but i wouldnt go too much over that.

High stall is good if you're n/a. With my blower, we kept the stall down around 2800. My converter is rated for 8oohp at the flywheel. If you're going to race, or even just make good power, DEFINITELY add the trans cooler.

Yes the "slowmatic" has more drive train loss than the stick, but with the auto, you don't ever have to let off the gas to shift. That allows my Kenne Bell to maintain boost all the way, since the bypass valve is throttle position based. With a "built" auto you can accelerate just fine. What I miss is the ability to downshift into the turns
