To fill you in, every wipe of anything on your car finish does some kind of damage. I knew a lady who vacuumed her carpet every day and her carpet was ruined in about a year's time. Proper care requires proper products AND application. Most cars today have enough clear to withstand the typical treatment, but excessive washing and buffing can thin the clearcoat to a point that it will no longer stand up to the abuse from the sun.
It is a combination of the sun and natural erosion, including washing, that takes it's toll on out car's finishes. Being a Houston resident, I know how severe the sun can be on a car's finish. Garage your car during daytime hours, and the finish will last almost indefinitely.
