Timing Problems - Novice Mechanic
Recently I installed a Summit Street/Strip Coil, Summit Street/Strip Distributor, and a MSD 6AL Box in my 65 Mustang - 289 4v. When I went to set the timing, the car started at 10 BTDC after Static Tuning the dizzy. When I turned the car off, it would not start again until I rotated the Disitributor back to the starting point. The inductive timing light I have is of no use with the MSD box due to interference. I had a buddy who is much more advanced than I install a new double roller timing gear and chain. Still no luck. We are also just trying to static tune it at TDC. How do I set the time correctly for this setup? Could it be my distributor locking up for some reason? Also experiencing alot of blowback out of both valve covers. The car reads 53,000 miles and I am the third owner. VIN number states motor should be 200 6 cyl. but I have a 289 and a Fred Jones (Oklahoma) plate on the back of the trunk so I don't know if I have an orginal camshaft or something different. The engine plate states 65 289 but it is ford med blue like a 200-6. If it is a different cam, would my firing order be different and causing this problem. I am at a stand still. Please Help!!! Thanks!
