Default Ever strip Chrome from Rims??

i just picked up a set of chrome.... well 1/2 chrome cobras that are perfectly straight, but nasty..

has anyone stripped chrome from rims in preparation to powdercoat??

ive been reading a bit and everyone is saying acid and batteries andstainless steelcathodes.

as of right now i dont want to get into chemicals and all that, so im hoping any of you have found a way to somewhat easily peel or blast or sand the chrome away so i can get to the aluminum..... thinking of making black cobras for my black GT.
