According to the article, Ford is in some financial troubles, and the next year will be vital.
First i'd heard about it.

Default RE: 'Ford fighting to keep its shine'...

Domestics have been in a financial quandry for years now. Ford and Chrysler are waking up faster than GM at the import threat. IMHO the 9/11 sky is falling in the domestic economical market just put a few more nails in the coffin. (DISCLAIMER **I AM BY NO MEANS DISCREDITING OR MINIMIZING THE LOSS WE INCURRED THAT DAY AND THE ONGOING STRUGGLE OUR TROOPS HAVE TO PUT UP WITH EVERY DAY IN IRAQ AND HERE AT HOME) The deep discounts and 0% interest that domestic manufacturers offered for several years now have come to be expected by us. Look at the fact we gripe when we pay MSRP for a Mustang. I know many people that although they complain about MSRP on a BMW or Toyota don't make a huge deal out of it.

Higher Healthcare and Workers Comp liabilities have forced us to cut somewhere, quality and ingenuity at times. Stuff getting shipped overseas is another. Until we as Americans put our money where our mouth is and make some sacrifices in our own lives, domestic industry (to stay on topic Ford/Chrysler/GM) will continue to get squeezed.
