Default shifter

I have a 96 gt 5spd and i put a b&m short throw in my car and then about 2 weeks after putting it in i blew out the shift mechanism in my transmission. I think it was because i did'nt set the shift stops correctly. Does anybody agree with me or could it be another reason. I want to put it back in cause i like the shifter. but i'm not sure cause i don't want to mess the tranny up again.please give me your input thanks.

The internal stops used in the 3650 tranny are aluminum and can be broken by repeated hard shifts. The stops on the short throw shifters are supposed to help eliminate this.
You haven't been powershifting have you. That's a known tranny killer.

I dont believe a 96 had the 3650 did it? thought they came around in mid 01 model year... Regardless, did you get the right shifter for your tranny? if it is the worng one it might have had the wrong length shaft entering the trany putting excess stress on things and causing the breakage...
