Default Throttle Position Sensor

I have an 87 GT. With the TPS connected the car runs like junk. It stumbles on acceleration. I have replaced it twice. If I unplug it the car runs like a scalded dog. I've tried all the adjusting voltages tips and nothing works. Any ideas?

thats strange. i would suggest running it tho. after you changed it, did it get better before worse or just always bad?

Yes, it is the same with new TPS and old. I even brought home several from the junkyard and all did the same. 5.0's are a dime a dozen in the junkyard here. I don't understand why it runs so great with it unplugged.

man, i dont even know what to tell ya. erm does it use more gas with it off tho? perhaps its the actual plug in glove that plugs into the tps that is faulty...?

Did you check it for dead spots? I had a big ordeal with my tps until getting a new one, now the car runs great

Take a voltage meter and watch the voltage at the TPS as you cycle the throttle from idle to full throttle. You should see a steady increase in voltage up to about 4.6 volts. A dead spot would be an area where the voltage went to zero or you saw something out of whack. On a digital voltage meter, just know that the reading may go from hundreds to thousands and may look like a odd spot as it changes the readings.

Thanks guys. Even after buying the 3rd new TPS and adjusting the voltage it still stumbles on acceleration with the TPS connected. If I unplug it, it runs great. Is it possible that the connector itself is bad? Any way to test these things. I guess I could get another out of the junk yard and solder it in and try it.
