12's whats it take?!
Well, the old combo in my 92 lx used to go 12.5's @112-113mph on the motor and 11.5's with a 150 shot. That was with a full weight (3200lbs.) 92 Lx with a stock 150K bottom end, Explorer GT40P heads that were milled to 48cc & mildly pocket ported, Explorer GT40 intake manifold, Ford "Z" cam, 65mm thottle body, C&L 76mm MAF, 1 5/8" Longtubes, 2 1/2" exhaust, 3.73 gears, 26x9" MT ET Drag Slicks.
My 88 Lx Now has that combo and it went a 12.8 @112mph first time out with a 2.03 60ft.
I would say with a stock full weight 87-93 mustang lx, it would take around 300rwhp with a good set of tires and a good driver. Add another 20rwhp for a GT. Nowif you completly gutted the car down to nothing, you would probably only need about 250-260rwhp to break the 12's.
My 92lx made 288rwhp and ran 12.5's, I think only because I dropped the clutch a 6500rpms and powershifted all the gears. If I reduced the weight and got better 60ft. times I think it would have gone very 12's.

MikeyZ! right of the bat bro i can tell you that your Heads are the biggest Problem right now with the engine. Start with a good set of trick flows or AFR 185's or 205's That box intake is actually made for a stock S/C car or NA stroker. thats also hurting you! Get the Trick flow intake or the systemmax. Get a custom burned chip every Factory EEC system pulls timing out at each gear change so if your running the factory computer and electronics thats hurting you also. For example a stock 94-95 gt pulls 5 deg timing out at 45 in second gear 12 in third and 15 in 4th this is programmed in their to aid the stock t-5 from shelling out the cluster and mainshaft. Its in basic terms a torque reducer. Get an Msd coil, dist, and 6al box. And the last thing is i didnt hear you mention anything about the suspension. Any stock mustang spins! Hook the power you have already. and continue to improve it as TQ and Hp increase's. i had a coupe with full msd, drag launch kit, with 70/30 lakewoods, southsides at the time because thats all they had, long tubes, pulleys, T/B and Massair kit with the oldschool kenny belle ram air and skinny'sit went 12.72 at 114
well as for as my motor gos ill know the numbers/tune this summer... mind you im an 86 speed den. car still... i was mainly goin for the susp. setup... im torn between a street setup(not really likein the full 2in drop kits), and race/drag setup(bouncey ride).... i want a happy mid. something that will allow me to dip into the 12's(thats all lol), but still able to hit a few corners....
Hmm... I'd say you could get: Trick Flow intake, GT40 heads ported and polished, custom grind cam, full MSD ignition, shift kit(auto)/short throw(stick shift), Centerforce stage 3 or higher clutch if it's a stick, 3500-4500 stall converter if it's an auto,4.10 gears, longtube headers, o/r midpipe, catback, drag radials, maybe an AC or backseat delete or both, and a few other things. That'll make you haul some @$$. Someone else will chime in and help me out here.
Tylers right too! Hell i agree with everyone on here about the combinations you can go with. I know what you mean Bro! YouCAN have somewhat the best of both worlds. It can be a corner carver or a Drag car, if you can get it to hook coming out of a corner on a road course it will definitely hook in a straight line. Get in contact with Maximum Mtrspt's and see what they say! Or call steeda they supply road course and drag. They have worked with thousands of cars so they might even be able to give you exactly what your looking for. Here's another idea Mikey, get in contact with someone like Larrocca performance tell them you want a race type factory stock class engine. Those guys at the NMRA finals in Bowling green KY, were running 306's with stock ground cobra cam and gt40 heads, cobra intake they were running like 12.40's i believethen with a light car. Of course it is setup strictly for drag but still you could get right in the zone. Yeah the speed density is a bummer when i comes to mods. My old 86 would'nt even idle with a B-cam LOL!!
