Default Ebay CAI...anyone bought?

Has anyone seen the CAI on ebay going for about $40.00 US? Anyone bought these? Are they worth anything? I am of the belief that if you want to keep your cool air cool, you don't run it through a metal pipe that is exposed to the heat of the engine compartment, however, $40 looks much nicer than $100, or $200.

keep your stock airbox, put in a K&N filter, and remove the air silence, and enlarge the fenderwell opening. that will give you the best cai on the market. cheapest too.

Cheapest , but not the best. Your stock pipe is made for sound deadening and just isnt going to produce good airflow. I have that done to my truck because I basically de-modded it. It is deffinetly better than stock, but doesnt touch my AEM Brute Force intake I had on previous to this. I had tried the ebay ones first with my truck and even though it made a decent sound, my 0-60 and QM times went down from stock. I got a slight improvement with the mod and a noticeable difference with the Brute Force, so, no they dont all do the same thing.

get rid of the air silencer, buy k&n filter for stock box, buy c&l 76mm maf and intake tube and your good to go. total is $250 and now you have a larger maf and the best flowing cold air kit

hey fordguy, is it really necessary to enlarge the hole? seems big enough to me

It doesn't seem to me talked about much...but is anyone concerned with the lack of good filtration with the k&n style cotton filters? They tout how much better they flow...no doubt about that but there's information out there that states in no way do they filter as good as paper. I have a friend that has a C5 and among the vette crowd they are taboo. The only good one I here is a "Green filter". I suppose you could pick up a cheap CAI and cross reference it to a green filter. The other issue is depositing oil on the MAM wire. I suppose this can be remedied by cleaning more often but my main concern is letting crap into the intake.
