Default Street Legal!

Ok I am trying to play with my 04 Gt Automatic. I would kinda like to keep it street legal in California but dont exactly know what i can and cant do. I want to get a new exhaust, maybe a shift kit(no idea what to look for), I already put intake in it, and definitely a predator tuner. Any ideas on how and what I can do to get it more power and keep it street legal so I dont have to interchange mods with stock everytime i smog it?

Cat back exhaust. Is the intake Ca legal? Are you going with a custom tune for your gt? many tunes aren't emission legal.

The intake i have no idea but i can swap that out in like 20 minutes by myself so im not too worried about that. And as far as the custom tune im not exactly sure because I dont know how difficult it would be to go back to an old tune to pass smog then go back to the custom tune after its passed. I am a total newb to this stuff so i apolgize if my questions are vague and sound like an elemtary student asking them lol

No problem. my only problem is I'm a little familiar with emission laws and Ca is real strict. As far as an exhaust, you should be okay with any that are cat back and leave the cats in place. Switching out the intake and driving for a while before the test would be a good idea also. I have a custom tune along with my intake for my 06 gt. I would just take off the cai and switch back to my stock tune.

If your trying to get the car a little stronger you could do gears, switch your shift points with your tuner and adjust for the gears. Could do pulleys, but I wouldn't mess with em.

If you have a question about whether a mod is legal in CA, just go to this website. It has a database of all the approved aftermarket parts for vehicles registered in CA.

With the predator tuner do u have any idea if its easy to switch from custom to stock tunes? And i hear with short headers u can have cats still on there but they arent worth the price for the little amount of power they give? And with longtubes they give the most power but cant have cats so that kinda eliminates them for me seeing as they are way too expensive and much trouble to have them removed and put back in for smogs. What are your thoughts on this? If it even makes any sense lol.

Long tubes are great if you live with no emission tests. Forget about the shortys. With my tuner i would just switch back to the stock tune setting after I take my cai off. Not hard at all.

i heard they crush your car if you can't pay the fine. I heard about this on my friends forums but, heres what your do, put what ever you want on it. the cops out there are trainded to o what to look for. so when you get pulled over for whatever reason, say that you cant open the hood the latch is broken or a lined snaped. my friend told me about so many kids that do that and get away with it.(keep exaust lookingstock)
