engine redline?
I was going to drop a V8 engine block in my 98 mustang which has a V6 but i was also goin to do interior work. the main thing im worried about is what my engine should redline...i was wondering how you figure out at how many RPMs an engine redlines at by size and valves and all that?
well redline has a lot of variables. Mainly how good the valvetrain is and the bottom end, alot of guys will use lighter pistons to spin the motor faster. But with most V8's it probably wont be benificial to spin it that high becuse top end HP will drop off at a certain RPM like most of the 5.0 guys will only spin it to 5500-5700 when redline is 6K
redline for the PI gt's is 5800.
stock valve springs and such are only good to like 6200-6400 on a 2v before you get problems.
and the stock 2v heads make reving any higher than that pointless because power starts dropping around 5500rpm i think (maybe even lower)
you do realize what all is involved in this swap dont you?

Doubt he does...
Why do you care what your engine red-lines at? Red-line doesn't determine how much power you have. It determines when it is a real bad idea to keep revving your engine up. lol It doesn't matter whether your engine revs up to 19k or 4k if you are making 500hp then 500hp is 500hp, no matter where it is at in the redline. Different engines need different red-lines for different power deliveries.
